A community organization bringing together individuals and families of Gujarati origin in Nigeria, preserving our cultural heritage and creating a platform for social and cultural engagement.
Gujarati Samaj Lagos is a community organization that brings together individuals and families of Gujarati origin living in Nigeria. Our aim is to preserve our cultural heritage, strengthen community bonds, and create a platform for social and cultural engagement.
We regularly organize events such as Navratri & Dandiya, Boogie Woogie dance programs, community picnics, and various social initiatives. We are also actively involved in charitable activities including blood donation drives, support for orphanages, and contributions to the Indo Eye Care Hospital for eye surgeries of needy patients. Through this platform, we aim to keep our community connected, informed, and engaged.
To build a strong, united, and culturally vibrant Gujarati community in Lagos, while contributing positively to society.

The Gujarati Samaj Lagos, formally known as the Gujarat Samaj Foundation Lagos, has been a cornerstone of the Gujarati community in Nigeria for over four decades. Established in 1982 by the visionary Late Shri N. G. Patel, the Samaj was founded with a clear purpose: to create a unified platform for Gujaratis living in Lagos to preserve their cultural identity, support one another, and contribute meaningfully to society.
In its formative years, the Samaj served as a gathering point for a small but closely-knit Gujarati community, providing a sense of belonging for families far from their homeland through cultural celebrations, religious events, and social interactions.
As the Gujarati population in Nigeria grew, the Samaj evolved into a vibrant, structured community organization integrating cultural preservation, community engagement, and social responsibility. Festivals such as Navratri (Dandiya), Diwali, and Sharad Purnima are celebrated with great enthusiasm, bringing together members across generations.
Gujarati Samaj Foundation Lagos is proud to be a founding member of Indo Eye Care, a healthcare initiative dedicated to providing accessible eye care to underserved communities. Through regular eye camps, screenings, and surgical interventions, the community has helped restore vision for thousands. The General Secretary serves on the Board of Trustees of the Indo Eye Care Foundation, and the Samaj has contributed over ₦150 million through various donation drives to date.
With a strong legacy behind it and a dynamic community driving it forward, Gujarati Samaj Lagos continues to be a symbol of unity, resilience, and cultural pride in Nigeria.
